From the good – plentiful water for settlers, picturesque scenes for artists, places for sport, power for mills,
To the bad – flooding & more flooding,
To the ugly – noxious pollution and vermin-ridden marshland,
Local historian Ellen Knight will describe the history of the river, riverside industries, and other developments from colonial days to the present and explain the continuing series of river improvement efforts, from the creation of Mystic Valley Parkway, to the Kellaway Plan, to the current flood mitigation program.
Using maps and photographs from the collections of the Winchester Archival Center and her experience as historical consultant to the Town’s flood team, Dr. Knight will tell the tale of the historic Aberjona.
Open to the public free of charge.
