The film chronicles the Winchester family from the first ancestor landing in Boston in 1625 through their successful businesses, and William meeting the King of France as The Colonel. The film was created by WinCAM producer and prize winning photographer Peter G. Engeldrum. Production took over two years from research to editing.
“With no written biography, we had to start from scratch researching William Winchester and his family” Engeldrum says. “Also, because he lived from 1801 to 1850, before the invention of photography, finding visual material for a film was a real challenge.”
“The portrait of William Parsons Winchester that emerged was of an educated and wealthy, but generous, man,”producer and director Engeldrum concluded.
Leaving some surprises for the first viewers of the film, Engeldrum asks, “But why was he called the Colonel? How did he make his money? Why did he give money to the Town of Winchester?”
